Quick Fun Color Workshop with Hai-Ou Hou

Join dynamic, award-winning artist Hai-Ou Hou for a 2-day all-level, all-media, intensive workshop that is perfectly timed to prepare you mentally and physically for painting quickly en plein air or any alla prima subject.
Learn Hai-Ou’s powerful abstract aesthetic of Impressionist painting for creating intensely colored, highly textured, and provocative art. Use any medium: oil, acrylic, watercolor, or pastels in this workshop. Subjects may include en plein air landscape, portrait, and still life. Learn the key elements of quick painting en plein air. Hai-Ou will share her secrets for finishing a plein air painting in less than two-hours.
This fast-paced, intensive workshop is packed full of information and demonstrations. It will take place indoors at Arts on Main in Gloucester, Virginia. Hai-Ou invites students in this workshop to watch her paint during the Festival. A supply list will be emailed to registered participants in April.

Hai-Ou Hou (pronounced “Hi-Oh How”) was born in Beijing where she received her B.F.A from the Central Institute of Fine Art and Design. She earned her M.F.A. from Towson State University in the United States. She has taught painting and design at the Hubei Fine Art Institute in Wu Han, China, and is the owner and director of the Chesapeake Fine Art Studio in Stevensville, Maryland.
Hai-Ou is a Signature Member in both the American Impressionist Society and the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters’ Association. She is a member of the Portrait Society of America and the Washington Society of Landscape Painters. Her work is widely represented in commercial galleries and is included in many public and private collections throughout the U.S. and abroad. She has received numerous awards and honors through her participation in national art events and exhibitions.
There is no question that the most inspirational landscape for Hai-Ou is the American West, especially the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, and the Sedona Red Canyons. She has devoted a great deal of time and travel to these magnetic terrains, which are the perfect subjects for the approach she takes to art and expression.
