Gary Pendleton

Book Author, 100 Plein Air Painters of the Mid Atlantic

Gary Pendleton is an artist, writer and speaker from North Beach, MD. He is the author of 100 Plein Air Painters of the Mid-Atlantic. The book presents 100 of the regions finest contemporary painters and includes a concise history of landscape painting in the region. It was published in 2014 by Schiffer Books.

His paintings have won awards and have been collected internationally, and he is represented by the prestigious McBride Gallery of Annapolis. However, he believes that his most significant accomplishments have been as a supporter of the arts as a patron, collector, organizer, author and lecturer.

As a painter his primary focus is on the landscape. Working in oil as well as watercolor, he prefers to paint directly from life whenever possible. He has participated in a number of juried Plein Air Painting competitions and exhibitions. More significantly, he has played a leadership role within the regional community of painters. He is the past president of the Mid Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association and he coordinated a major exhibition of urban landscape paintings in Baltimore titled, Cityscape 2015.

He has a lifelong interest in nature, and the environment. For over 12 years he wrote and illustrated a column for Bay Weekly focusing on Natural History. He has also illustrated books and articles, including St. Leonard, a Maryland Tidewater Community, which won a prestigious award from the Maryland Preservation Trust. Gary also enjoys gardening, cooking, reading and playing the banjo. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a major in Radio, TV and Film.

Gary is also a musician who makes music with his wife, Karyn Molines and a band called Rock Fish. A Popular Southern Maryland Band playing an eclectic mix of musical styles from Broadway to Bluegrass, a testament to the truly universal artist of Gary Pendleton.
