Dorothy Fagan

Artist Curator, Heart of the River Collection

Dorothy Fagan is an artist, writer and speaker from Cobbs Creek, Virginia. She is the author of Discovering Joy’s Garden, which presents a plein air artist’s residency in France. Her inspirational artist stories include everything from why she went, what she packed, where she painted ~ to how her watercolor postcards and dreams influence her life and oil paintings!

Dorothy’s paintings have won awards and are collected internationally, and she is represented by the prestigious Chasen Galleries of Richmond. Working in oil, as well as pastel and mixed media, she utilizes an experimental Color Fusion process to continually grow and develop her artistry and vision. Color and drawing are important elements in her work.

She conducts creativity retreats in painting, watercolor journaling and Italian cooking in Tuscany. Read her article series, Plein Air Painting is the New Golf.

Fagan holds a B.F.A in Printmaking and Painting from East Carolina University. She completed a 10-year Mentorship in American Masters Painting with Robert Bowers Mayo in 1988. Her paintings are in the public collections of the City University of New York, Musee de La Grande Vigne, Longwood Art Museum, U Mass Memorial and numerous others.
